GALVESTON —Charles Davidge Stubbs age 74, of Annapolis, Maryland passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, on the corner of 14th and Broadway in Galveston. Burial will follow at Old Catholic Cemetery in Galveston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, April 10, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont St., Galveston.
Charles Davidge Stubbs was born Feb. 8, 1941, to Theodore B. and Sara Ellen Davidge Stubbs in Galveston, TX. The senior Mr. Stubbs was an attorney who had served as a major in the Marine Corps Judge Advocate General staff, and was later elected Mayor of Galveston.
Charles Stubbs graduated from Kirwin High School in Galveston, where he was captain of the football team and valedictorian of the class of 1959, and entered the United States Naval Academy with the Class of 1963. He resigned from the Naval Academy following his second year, and entered St. Louis University, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering in 1963. He earned a master’s degree at University of Pennsylvania and completed marketing management studies at The Wharton School.
He began his career as a data systems engineer with Bell Laboratories in Holmville, NJ, and later joined the parent company, AT&T, in Basking Ridge, NJ.
Mr. Stubbs was married to the former Carolyn Ghiselli of Galveston. They had three daughters, Sally Elizabeth Bartholmey of Dunedin, FL, Lisa Ann Schulze of San Antonio, TX, and Michelle Lee Stubbs of Bedminster, NJ.
Following his retirement, Mr. Stubbs moved to Annapolis, where he was active in his Naval Academy Class, arranging monthly luncheons of local alumni. He was a past president of the New Providence Club, and a member of the Navy League and Annapolis International Club.
In addition to his daughters and his former wives, he is survived by his sisters, Lois Blake of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Sally Stubbs of Houston, TX.
