Hugh Chapman, age 81 of Fort Worth, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 9th at Albany Cemetery with Rev. Cal Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Charles Hugh Chapman was born October 6, 1933 to parents, Joseph Henry Chapman and Hester Parum Chapman in Albany, Texas.

He went to school and graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas. While in high school, Hugh was a star athlete for the Hillcrest Panthers where he distinguished himself in track and football. He was a finalist in the 880 yard dash his senior year. What is remarkable about this accomplishment is that he ran this even with only one sneaker, which he had lost at the beginning of the race.

After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Hugh served in the Korean War as a boiler operator on the USS Princeton.

Although a native Texas, Hugh was also a resident of New York City for 40 years. During his time in New York, he worked as a prep chef at The Wharf Restaurant in Queens. In his many food service jobs, Hugh was not only known for his friendliness but for his expertise, reliability and work ethic. His heart always belonged to Texas and returned here to live for the past 15 years. Prior to his entry into Mira Vista Court nursing facility, he was a very popular resident of Catherine Booth Salvation Army residence, as a friend to many and leader of worship services. He was a devoted and active member of the Christian community. Mr. Chapman earned a reputation for both his generosity and kindness towards others. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hester Chapman and eight siblings, Curtis Chapman, Carl Chapman, Jimmy Chapman, Leila Pitts Powell, Marvin Pitts, Emma Lee Pitts, Jewell McQuin, Elmo Chapman.

Mr. Chapman is survived by three children, Arnold Chapman and wife Debbie, Kenny Chapman, Ray Chapman; one brother, Ernest Chapman and wife Christine Smith Chapman; four grandchildren, Austin Chapman, Andrew McAllister, Patti Ann Chapman, Jennifer Chapman and four great grandchildren, Nathan, Caleb, Selah and Gabriella.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online atwww.morehartmortuary.net.
