He married Nancy Gardner in December 1840.Together they had three children, Isaiah, John and Susan. Both of his sons fought in the civil war, Isaiah died due to wounds he sustained during that war. Isaac survived the war and later moved to California from Ohio following the death of his wife.
In Shasta Mr. Roop served as Postmaster and as the school commissioner, He later pioneered in the Honey Lake area, and with a man named Peter Lassen (who the county is now named for) founded the town of Susanville (which was named after Isaac's daughter, Susan).
Mr. Roop later served as the Governor of the Provisional Territorial Government of Nevada Territory. After the formation of the territory of Nevada, in 1861, Governor Roop was elected to the Territorial Senate. The Susanville area was once part of Nevada and later became part of California.
In politics, Governor Roop belonged to the Wig party as long as it had an existence.
Isaac was also a Mason and when he died he was buried with full Masonic honors.
He lies with his daughter in the Susanville Cemetery.
