Herbert Hoover Howell, longtime Cushing resident and carpenter, passed away on April 7, 2015 in the Drumright Nursing Home at the age of 86 years. The son of the late James Milledge Howell, Sr. and Effie Jane Eikenbary Howell, Herb was born on October 11, 1928 in Stroud and was raised and educated in the Davenport schools.

Herb was united in marriage to Barbara Couch on March 1, 1954 in Pawnee and to this union three children, Linda, James and Rick, were born.

He served his country in the United States Army Air Force; was a member of the First Baptist Church; enjoyed his carpentry work and spending time with his grandsons.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Barbara Howell of the home; one daughter, Linda Howell of Oklahoma City; two sons, James Howell and Rick Howell, both of Cushing; two grandsons, Billy Howell of Washington D.C.and Jim Howell of Stillwater; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by seven sisters, Martella Leland, Dorthea Oakes, Corene Musgrave, Novelene Howell, Lucille Shafer, Mildred Hyso & Maxine Raines and three brothers, Van Howell, James M. Howell, Jr. and Cecil Howell.

Graveside services will be Friday, April 10, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Stroud Cemetery with Ralph Hickman and Bill Allton, Jr. officiating.
