Carl D. Gray, 70, Herrin, died Jan. 30 in Herrin Hospital. Funeral services were Feb. 1 in the George Van Natta Funeral Home. Burial was in Herrin City Cemetery.

Mr. Gray was a retired coal miner and member of United Mine Workers Local 1776. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Herrin, World War I Barracks and the Herrin American legion.

He was born may 28, 1896 in Carrollton, Ga., the son of Cornelius and Ora Bell Gray.

He leaves his wife, the former Helen Welty; son, Don; father, Cornelius Gray; sister, Ruth Bearden; and brothers, Algee, Leonard, Floyd and Lester.
