Fort Bend Herald, April 16, 2014:

Calvin Steele Landers, 84 years old, of Richmond, Texas, passed away on April 15, 2014 after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s. Calvin Landers was born on June 18, 1929 in Hallsville in Harrison County, Texas to Augusta and Eva Landers and lived in Richmond, Texas for over 50 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Clara Hopkins, Sue Oliver, Bernice Emery, Gussie Faye Fraize, Willie Bea “Polly” Drew; and brother, James Landers.

While he was stationed with the Air Force, he met the love of his life, Carmen “Honey,” in Antigua, West Indies. They were married on September 1, 1950. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and helping any friend in need. He took vacation every summer with his children either traveling all over the United States or camping and fishing at favorite lakes.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carmen LaBega Landers; and three children, daughter, Brenda Priess and husband, Glenn, of Richmond; daughter, Charlene Joswiak of Rosenberg, Texas; and son, David Landers and wife, Tracy of Rosenberg; as well as grandchildren Sallie Andrews, Michael Joswiak and wife, Audrey, Kristopher Landers and wife, Lauren, Jennifer Landers Tondera and husband, Danny, David Landers Jr, Olen Landers, Ashlyn Landers; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Kenna, Liam, and Kaydence; as well as many other much loved family and friends.

Calvin retired after 35 years of service to Houston Lighting and Power Co. He and Carmen retired to Bellville, Texas for several years before returning to Richmond, Texas. He was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church in Richmond and a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 429 in Rosenberg. For 60 years he served as a member of the Morton Masonic Lodge No. 72 AF&AM in Richmond and of the East Bernard Masonic Lodge No. 817. He was a former member of the Bellville Lodge No. 223 AF&AM in Bellville. He was an avid beekeeper for many years and belonged to the Fort Bend County Bee Association. He was also the first walking postman in Richmond, Texas.

Pallbearers will be members of the Morton Masonic Lodge in Richmond. For those wishing, donations may be made in the memory of Calvin to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Morton Masonic Lodge Scholarship Fund.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in the State Room of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
