Donald Dean Fox, 90, of Paris, passed away at 10:14 a.m. EDT Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was retired after many years as a grain and livestock farmer.
Masonic rites will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Templeton Funeral Home in Paris by Stratton Lodge #408, with funeral services immediately following. Burial follows in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Fox was born January 3, 1925, in Dudley, the son of the late Lurista "L.B." and Priscilla Turner Fox. He married Phyllis N. Robinson Dec. 18, 1943, at the First United Methodist Church in Paris, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry (Martha) Fox and Philip (Susan) Fox both of Paris; a sister, Norma Harpring of Paris; two grandchildren, Eric (Beth) Fox of Sherman, and Danielle (Scott) Lindsey of Old Hickory, Tenn.; a step-grandson, Dillon Garver (Bryanne Kalous) of Paris; four great-grandchildren, Amelia and Audrey Fox and Olivia and Izabel Lindsey, with one great-grandson due in July.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice Fox.
Mr. Fox was a member of Stratton Lodge #408 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons for more than 50 years, serving as master in 1969, and was a past recipient of the Community Builder Award. He was a member of AASR Valley of Danville, Ansar Shrine Temple, an Honorary Member of Zorah Shrine Temple, and a member of the Ansar Hillbilly Clan. He was a very dedicated member of Edgar County Shrine Club for more than 30 years, serving as president in 1981. As part of the Hospital Unit for more than 20 years, he made countless trips driving Edgar County children and their families to the St. Louis Shriners Hospital for treatment.
His life was also marked by service to farming and his community. He served on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Pork Producers Association and was the first president of the Edgar County Pork Producers Association. He served on the Crestwood District 4 School Board for more than 20 years including 10 as treasurer. He was the first president of the Edgar County 4-H Association and served as the leader of the North Arm Hustlers Club for a number of years. In addition, he was a member of the Edgar County Farm Bureau, the Hunter Anti-Theft Association, an FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer, the Antique Tractor Club, and the North Arm Community Club. He was also an avid fisherman.
