Betty L. Dittmann, 85, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015 at her home in Pittsburg.

She was born February 10, 1930, the daughter of Walter H. and Viola Mae (Johnson) Caldwell.

She was raised in West Mineral, Kansas before moving to Pittsburg in 1946. She graduated from Pittsburg High School and received her teaching degree from the current Pittsburg State University.On August 14, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Bob Dittmann at the Frontenac Methodist Church. They had celebrated 65 years of marriage. He survives at their home in Pittsburg.She taught elementary school before quitting to raise her children. In her later years, she helped operate their family run business, Bob Dittmann Insurance Agency.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included golfing, bowling and creative writing.In addition to her husband, Bob, she is survived by her four children and spouses: Steve and Stephanie Dittmann of Lawrence, KS, Cindy and Don Elmer of Pittsburg, Debbie and Dr. Robert Stringer of Joplin, MO, and Nancy and Kip Bollinger of Pittsburg; Seven grandchildren, Lisa and Fred Elmer, Dr. Scott Stringer, Katie, Kellie and Lauren Stringer, Samantha Bollinger and two step-grandchildren, AJ Elmer and Stephanie Knisley. She is also survived by a special friend, Carol Dittmann whom she thought of as a daughter.She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Walter Caldwell, Jr., who gave his life for his country during WWII and a sister, Norma Jean Uttley.A Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday (April 11) at Brenner Mortuary, with Rev. Mark Chambers, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Brenner Mortuary. Friends may from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday to sign the register. A private family burial will take place at a later date in the Highland Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church and/or the Harry Hynes Hospice. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
