Obituary
John C. Shinn, 71, Edwards, who helped prepare Rockford for switch-over to dial telephones during 1946-47, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday in St. John's Hospital, Springfield.
Mr. Shinn, an Illinois Bell Telephone Co., district construction supervisor for 46 years, came to Rockford about 1928 and moved in about 1946 to Springfield where he was construction adviser before retiring.
He began his 46-year telephone career in Abilene, Kansas, where he was born.
Survivors include his widow, Mary, Springfield, and three sons, William, general manager of Gunite Foundries Division, Kelsey-Hayes Co., and Thomas, Illinois Bell representative, both of Rockford; and John C., Illinois Bell representative in the Peoria office, Edwards; and 14 grandchildren, one son, Charles, predeceased him in 1951.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Long-Koontz Funeral Home, 428 Park Ave. Burial will be in Willwood Burial Park.
