Her father was Sinai Welt and her mother was Augusta Liblau. He wanted his four daughters to become doctors. Three of them (Rosa Welt Straus, Sara Welt Kakels, and Leonora Gourfin-Welt) became medical doctors. Ida earned a phd chemistry.

On a notice about a citizen who dies abroad, it states that she was, "cremated at St. Georges' cemetery on August 7, 1950 and that her ashes were deposted at the Jewish Cemetery at Veyrier, Geneva."
