Anita Hogan
Graveside services will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., Friday, June 2, at 3:00 p. m. for Anita Hogan, 86. Chaplain Gary Bashor will officiate. Of all the things Anita loved to do in life during the last 30 years, her favorite was being a grandmother. She raised her first grandson, Nathan, for the majority of his life, and then welcomed her second grandson, Andy. She then became a very proud great grandmother of four rambunctious boys and one sweet little girl. Always a true grandma she greeted them with a smile, a kiss and something sweet, a cookie in the cupboard or a piece of hard candy in her pocket. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gus and her son, Steve. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Sims and husband, Jim of Riverside; grandsons, Nathan and wife Denisse Hogan and Andy Hogan; five great grandchildren, Shawn, Alex, Eric, Connor and Samantha. She is also survived by brother-in-law Eddie Hogan and wife, Dorothie of Los Osos; cousin, Helen Larson of San Luis Obispo; nieces, Pati Jones and husband, Randy, Paula Burroughs and husband, Bruce, Sally Bowles and husband Steve, and numerous great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many good friends at Carriage House Estates where she lived the last three years of her life. Anita Hogan was born in Oklahoma on May 14, 1920. She left us on May 27, 2006 while surrounded by her loving family. Anita migrated with her family to Kern County when she was a young girl. She grew up in Taft where she graduated from Taft High School in 1938. Anita met Andy "Gus" Hogan at the Flower St. Market in Bakersfield. This meeting led to a marriage of almost 50 years. During this long and happy marriage, Anita raised two children, Judy and Steve. Anita was also very active in the running of a family business. Anita never found a craft she couldn't do and do well. She did it all. Her favorite and most practiced art was china painting, a source of pride. Her work won many blue ribbons at the Kern County Fair. Anita was a true master of the craft and like a true master, never stopped learning, taking classes well into he 80's. Anita will be missed by many people, but most of all by those who called her mother and grandmother.
