Mama was born July 8, 1924 in Vera, Texas, to George Albert and Betty Josiephene Bonds Hughes. She grew up in Vera, attended school there, and graduated in May 1942 from Vera High School. She married Donald Buster Reeves on December 23, 1941 at the Baptist parsonage in Seymour, and Brother J.R. Balch performed the ceremony. He preceded her in death on November 25, 1968.
She later married Delbert Lee Montgomery on April 3, 1976 in Seymour. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1964, where she served as the Director of the Young Married Sunday School Class.
She was active in the Women's Missionary Union, and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class at the time of her death. Mama became employed by the Seymour Independent School District in 1969 in the School Tax Office, and later served as the School Tax Collector until her retirement in 1996.
She loved the outdoors and could be found most times working in her yard and tending to her flowers. She was a wonderful homemaker and excellent cook, and Granny Lil's pies were always in demand from her family. She loved her family most of all, and her grandchildren were the light of her life.
She is survived by two sons, Rev. Donald Buster Reeves, Jr. and wife, Sandy of Corona, California, and Ronald Bruce Reeves and wife, Jana of Seymour, Texas; her grandchildren, Carece Marie Eckstrom and husband, James, Charity Christene Murphy and husband, Andrew, Jennifer Renea Reeves, Joshua Kevin Reeves and Ronald Bruce Reeves, Jr. and wife, Abbye; her great-grandchildren, Jordan and Abigail Egger, Ben, Tara and Lilliana Murphy, Sean Eckstrom, and Olivia Kate Reeves, who is scheduled to arrive in June 2010; her sister,Clara Ileta Gore of Seymour, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and by one brother, Quel Alton Hughes.
There will be a visitation beginning at 6 P.M. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home, and Mama requested that your memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Seymour, Texas.
