Retired Haverhill Firefighter Captain Richard E. "Dick" Willett, 84, formerly of Haverhill, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011 in Sebastian, Fla.
He was born in Haverhill on March 19, 1927, son of the late Alfred and Dorothy (Perry) Willett. Dick served in the U.S. Army in 1945; after receiving an honorable discharge, he joined the Haverhill Fire Department in 1951. He retired, as Captain, in 1985 after 34 years of service. In 1986, he moved to Florida where he enjoyed fishing and playing pool. Dick was a member of both the VFW and Elks Social Clubs.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Lillian LeColst. Dick is survived by his sister, Dorothy Williams of Tennessee; daughters, Kathleen Guthrie and husband Don of Choctaw, Okla., and Jane Quimby and husband Scott of Haverhill; two grandchildren, Heather (Quimby) Miller and husband Christopher, and Donald (Bud) Guthrie and Becca; as well as three great-grandchildren, Emily, Zachary and Gage. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Rick Williams, in addition to lifelong friend, Frank Cormier of Haverhill.
