Jean Nell Wakefield Dean was born March 27, 1929, in Beaumont, Texas, the second of seven children of John Rodney Wakefield and Thelma Edna Macomber Wakefield. While a young girl, the family had lived in Woodville Texas and then Silsbee Texas, and then she and her family moved to Conroe where she completed high school. She then attended Lamar University in Beaumont. She married Thurston Dean, MD. in Houston in 1954. They moved to St. Louis, Mo., for the completion of Dr. Dean's residency and then to Midland in 1960. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Precepts Ministry. Jean was a beautiful person and loving mother, and from an early age displayed extraordinary talent in many areas, including as Drum Major and best female athlete in high school, and as an adult, she was an accomplished artist in paint, pastel and sculpture. She very much enjoyed gardening. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, by her brother John R. Wakefield, Jr. of Conroe and by her sister Mary Jo Nutter of Conroe. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Thurston Dean of Midland; five sons, Dr. Thurston Dean III of Midland, James Christopher Dean and Dr. Paul W. Dean, both of College Station, Dr. John C. Dean of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Dr. D. Bradley Dean of Dallas; one daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Kathleen) Williams of Houston; three brothers, Dick Wakefield of Los Angeles, Clyde Wakefield of Vidor and Michael Wakefield of Beaumont; one sister, Mrs. James (Judy) Crane of Conroe; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
