He was born December 18, 1926 in Salt Lake City, the third child of Vernon J. and Claudine H. Crossley.
After graduating from South High, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served thirty years, retiring as a chief petty officer.
He then was employed by Central Savings and Loan in San Diego before retiring.
He lived in San Diego and Hemet, California for forty-nine years.
John married Betty Jean McEntire on February 24, 1949. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many capacities, including seventeeb years as ward financial clerk, at times serving multiple wards concurrently.
He loved the outdoors, computers, and family history work.
John is survived by his three children, Jean (David) Sanders, Hemet; Ken (Lorraine), Spanish Fork; and Dale (Shelly) Crossley, Nampa, Idaho; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, parents; and siblings, Annie and Robert V. Crossley.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street (100 East), Murray. Friends and family may call prior to the services from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment: Roy City Cemetery.
