Memorial services for Gene Gilbert Murphy, 71, of McHenry, formerly of Mount Prospect, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Road (at Northwest Highway), Mount Prospect. Born Nov. 25, 1931, in Greensboro, N.C., he died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002.

Mr. Murphy graduated from the University of North Carolina with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. A veteran, he was a member of the Special Forces Division of the Army during the Korean War. For 34 years he was owner and CEO of the Automation Equipment Company-Midwest in Mount Prospect. Gene also helped form the Weston Lake Homeowners Association and was a past president of the Thunderbird Condominium Association.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Murphy (nee Tuttle), whom he married in 1957; children Jonathan (Sarah) Murphy, Susan "Beth" (Richard) DuBois, Christopher (Christine) Murphy and Jennifer (Keith) Johns; grandchildren, Daniel and Kristin Murphy, Richard Jr. and Ryder DuBois, Keith and Kyle Murphy, and Jacqueline, Katelyn and Julia Johns; sisters, Jackie Nienaber and Greta (Toni) Lambert; sister-in-law, Patricia Murphy; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Jean.

A memorial visitation will take place from 2 p.m. until the time of services Saturday, at the funeral home.
