Daughter of John Grant and Hannah Eames

Sarah Grant was born in 1863 to John and Hannah Grant. Her mother Hannah died in 1864. Later that same year, her father married her mother's sister, Emma. Her father and step-mother had both been baptized into the LDS Church and in 1873, they decided to immigrate to the Utah Territory. On 4 June 1873 they boarded the steam ship "Nevada" in Liverpool and arrived in NYC on June 16th. They arrived in Utah by rail road on June 26th.

The Grants settled in the Sugar House area of Salt Lake County and welcomed 5 more children into the family.

It was in Sugar House that Sarah met Nels "Nelsen" Petersen, a Danish immigrant, and they married in the Logan LDS Temple on 4 March 1885. The Petersens initially lived in the Sugar House area but eventually moved to the Granger area of Salt Lake County to farm. Nelsen and Sarah had 13 children and also raised an orphaned grandson, William Grant Bess.

Nelsen died in 1931 and Sarah moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, Stella and William Frahm on 4400 West. Her adult children Raymond, Calvin and Bessie lived on 4400 West with their families as well.

Sarah died in 1940 at the age of 77. She was buried alongside her husband in the Taylorsville Memorial Park Cemetery.
