GALVESTON — John Henry Biggers, 84, received his reward of eternal rest on Sunday, January 15, 2006, at UTMB, surround by his loving children, brother, niece and friends. John Henry was born December 31, 1921, in San Augustine, Texas to Samuel and Rena Clay Biggers. A resident of Galveston for over 60 years, he worked at the Texas City Refinery and was a retired longshoreman with Local 329, also serving as a foreman and treasurer of the local. He was a former member of the Mt. Calvary church and later joined the Mt Olive church, where he served as a Deacon. He was also a Prince Hall Mason. John Henry was a devoted, husband, father and was loved by his community and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Annie Biggers and three sisters. He leave to cherish his life legacy, a son, George Oliphant (Winnie) of Houston; daughters, Yvonne Montgomery (Johnny) of Waco and Johnnie Marie Pogue (Rick) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Jason Oliphant, Tiffany Jackson and Eric Pogue, five great grandchildren; brother Jerry Biggers (Clara) of Galveston, Texas; sister, Elizabeth Young of Angleton, Texas; devoted friends, Ardella Atkinson, Bessie Scott, Etta Goffney and Hal Smith, host of nieces nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2006, at E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2006, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Pastor Norris D. Burkley, Sr., officiating. He will lie in state at Taylor's Tabernacle in San Augustine on Saturday, January 21, 2006, from 10 a.m. – 11a.m., followed by burial at Thompson Cemetery in Center, Texas.
