!OBITUARY: The Philadelphia Inquirer, 3 Feb 1994, Wilmer H C Bassett-Wilmer H C Bassett, 75, a retired president of Bassett Steel & Tube Co, died Wednesday at his home in Newtown Square; Born in Philadelphia, Mr Bassett graduated from Lower Merion High School and served as an Army Air Corps pilot in World War II flying B-24s in the European Theater; He was shot down over Polesti, Romania, and taken prisoner of war; He was held for two years; After liberation, he and his fellow prisoners had to get through an area not yet liberated, and a Romanian princess helped them leave the country, according to his son, Jeffrey; After the war, Mr Bassett worked at Joseph T Ryerson & Son Inc, a steel company in Philadelphia; In 1957, he started his own company, Bassett Steel & Tube Co, in King of Prussia and Milltown, N J; He was a member of Wayne Methodist Church, where he served on the Men's Committee; Survivors: his wife, Dorothy; son, Jeffrey; daughters, Ann Lewis, Cheryl MacDonald, Lynn Bassett and Laurie Miles; a brothers; a sister, and eight grandchildren; Services: 11 a m Saturday, Wayne United Methodist Church, interment, private.
