Velma M. Pennington

Having been lovingly surrounded by her family and friends, Velma M. Pennington went home to be with her Savior on March 2, 2013.

Velma will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. She had a spirit and love for life that were contagious. Her joy at hosting gatherings was only out matched by her efforts to make sure others felt that same joy at the gatherings.

She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Joseph C. Pennington, Jr., and is survived by two sons, Dr. Joseph C. Pennington III, his wife, Terri and their two sons, Thomas and Zachary and Reverend J. Christopher Pennington, his wife, Christy and their three children, Connor, Keila and Nicholas. In addition, Velma leaves behind three siblings, N. Thomas Matthews, Glenda M. Green and Dinah M. Vance and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, March 7 from 6-8 pm at MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilm., DE 19803 (Rt. 202 South of Silverside Road). Additional parking available at the Brandywine YMCA Rear Lot, 3 Mt. Lebanon Road. The funeral will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1314 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 on March 8 at 11 am where friends may visit for 1 hour prior to the service at the church lounge.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Emmanuel Dining Room, 121 N. Jackson St., Wilmington, DE 19805 or to Camp Pecometh, 136 Bookers Wharf Rd., Centreville, MD 21617.
