It is with human sadness but spiritual glory to announce the death of Marla Dawn Gregory, age 46, of Rockford, on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. She went home to be with her Lord and Creator after a life-time battle with various cancers. She was born December 24, 1967, in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of Don and Cheryl Matheny. Marla graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan with the class of 1986. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degrees in Education from Grand Valley State University. Marla started her educational career as a special education teacher in 1992 at Parkside Elementary in Rockford. She later transitioned to a fifth grade position teaching at both Lakes and Parkside Elementary. Marla influenced the lives of a countless number of staff, parents, and students during her 23 year career in Rockford. Her legacy continues through the lives of everyone she inspired and shared God’s message of hope, faith, and eternal life. She is survived by her husband Noah J. Gregory; two children, Gabriella, and Tessa; a brother-in-law, John Gregory; his three children Nicole (Mike) Durga, Jaqueline Gregory, and John Gregory IV; a sister-in-law, Colleen Gregory; a pair of in-laws, John (Cheryl) Gregory and Mary Hanson; her mother and father, Don and Cheryl Matheny; a brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Fran Matheny; their two children, Koen, and Kennedy; along with many family and friends here in Michigan and Kentucky.
