Elmus Akin, 75, of 2003 Illinois Ave. in Murphysboro, died Sunday in St. Andrew's Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born in Pomona in 1885. He had lived in Murphysboro for 51 years.

He was married in 1904 in Murphysboro to the former Sarah Lindsey who survives.

Mr. Akin leaves sons Granvil of Murphysboro and Wallace of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters Mrs. Clarence Long and Mrs. Ralph Deppe, both of Columbia, a half-brother, Robert Blaylock of Scheller, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Murphysboro.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Crawshaw Mortuary Chapel, Murphysboro. The Rev. H. T. Rafnel will officiate. Burial will be in the [Mount Pleasant] Jerusalem Cemetery, Pomona.
