Augustus Keese came to America when he was 19. He was married twice and had 11 children. He was survived by his second wife and two children, Mrs. Louis Behrens and Henrietta Keese, and his brother, Louis Keese.
He had been a constable, a court crier and a detective, but in later years had spent most of his time as a notary public.
He was an active member of several organizations, including the G.A.R., the Knights of Pythias, the 6th Battalion, District of Columbia Volunteers, the Saengerbund and the Odd Fellows.
He died after suffering from asthma for about two weeks.
