Moundville, Alabama Gloria Hinton Austin died Thursday, April 2, 2015, after a brief illness at home. Services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Moundville United Methodist Church with the Reverends Bill Curtain and Thomas Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home-South directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William (Bill) L. Austin; her daughter, Jane Austin Lavender; her parents, Harry Lee and Annie Hinton; her sisters, Mary Radford, Helen Shamblin, and Carol Hallford; and her brothers, Malcolm and Milton Hinton.
Gloria was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and married Bill in 1944. They moved to Birmingham in 1953 and lived there for nine years, where they were members of All Saint's Episcopal Church. In 1962 they purchased Moundville Motor Company and moved to Moundville, Alabama where Gloria worked as a bookkeeper until retirement. Gloria was an active member of Moundville United Methodist Church for many years after moving to Moundville.
