DOVER - Ada Marie Ford, of Dover, departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008. She was 90. She was born April 12, 1918, to the late Jeannette Rachel Thomas and Horace Samuel Winchester. She attended schools in the Smyrna, Clayton and Cheswold area. In her younger years she worked as a factory worker but stopped after a short employment in the production industry and became employed as a domestic engineer. She said that it gave her more time to spend with her children. Her employment included people in a widespread area. Everyone that she worked for came to love her and referred to her as a part of their families. She was Mom to some, Mom Mom to others, aunt Ada to some and Sis to others and these were all outside her own family. In addition to savoring every moment she could with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she enjoyed listening to good music and one of her favorites was Lee Williams gospel songs. She was also an avid soap opera viewer. She is preceded in death by her husband, William L. Ford; two sons, William H. Ford and James A. Ford; a sister, Willmina Thomas; two brothers, William E. Winchester and Samuel H. Winchester; and a grandson, Glen Blackson. She leaves to cherish her memories seven daughters, Mary Blackson, Gloria Wisher, Virginia Ford, Jeannette Twitty and husband Joe Bobby, Sarah Albarran and husband Angelo all of Dover, Rose Wilson and husband Sylvester of Hartley, Dorothy Watson and husband Melvin of Townsend; and a nephew, Robert Winchester of Hartley. She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. After the loss of their own mother, two of her nieces; Deborah Scott and Helen McCorkle became very devoted to her and likened her to their own mother and treated her as such. We will all miss her dearly. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, where friends may view two hours prior. Burial will be in Whatcoat cemetery.
