BLYTHEWOOD - Harry Dean Bishop, 78, of Blythewood, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Born April 27, 1933, he was a son of the late A. E. Bishop and Belle Polk Bishop. Dean grew up on the family farm in Bamberg and attended Bamberg High School, where his performance on the football field earned him a scholarship to Furman University. He chose instead to enlist in the US Navy and served a four year tour in the Pacific during the Korean War. After the war, he attended the University of South Carolina. Dean married Alma Lomas on June 1, 1957. For a number of years, he sold insurance and then worked for the US Post Office. Most of his life, Dean was a realtor with E. D. Sauls. He was a charter member of Fair Lawn United Methodist Church , a member of the North Richland Optimist Club and volunteered with Camp Kemo. Dean loved to hunt, fish and shrimp. He was active in Little League baseball and enjoyed the vacation home he and Alma made in Frogmore.

In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Alma Lomas Bishop; and sister-in-law, Rosine Bishop.
