Mark Ballard
December 28, 1950 - December 25, 2014

Mark Ballard ELDON — Mark Alan Ballard, 63, of 300 S. KD Ave., died at 10:35 p.m. December 25, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was born December 28, 1950, in Ottumwa to Carl and Alice Jones Ballard. He married Laura Glasson on June 10, 1978. They later divorced. He married Loretta Blake in February of 2008. She preceded him in death in September of 2010. A 1969 graduate of Ottumwa High School, he had worked for Fairfield Aluminum Casting Co in Fairfield, retiring as pattern maintenance supervisor. He had owned and operated the Amoco station in Eldon. Mark was very active in Boy Scouts for many years, having completed his wood badge training. He served as Scout Master and started the Boy Scout soup suppers. Mark started the cardboard boat races in Eldon and coached Little League for his sons. He enjoyed fishing, being at Lake Wapello and watching NASCAR and Iowa Hawkeye football. Surviving are his children, Nick (Michelle) Ballard of Eldon, Drew (fiancée Haley Kerkove) Ballard of Oskaloosa and Maggie Ballard of Poynette, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Braden, Ava, Addison and Iris; four stepchildren including stepdaughters, Erica and Kelly and her daughter, Shea; several step-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia (Larry) Kelley of Olathe, Kansas; his twin brother, Michael (Deana) Ballard of Lodi, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sandra Ballard. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Clark officiating. Cremation will follow the services with inurnment in Eldon Cemetery. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Monday with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Gothic Trail Committee to benefit the Eldon Scouts, PO Box 28, Eldon, Iowa 52554.
