Served aboard the submarine USS Scorpion
On 5 January 1944 USS Sorpion (Cdr.M. G.Schmidt)
attemped to rendezvous with sister ship USS Herring
to tranfer an injured crew member. Heavy seas prevented
the transfer. The Scorpion continued west. She was
never heard from again and is assumed to be a victim
of a Japanese mine, she was declared lost 6 March 1944.
The lost date is a approximate date.
2 brothers James Howard and Rex Darby both served
in the Navy WWII.
