Captain in HQ Co, 128th Infantry, 32nd Infantry Division, World War I. A founder of the American Legion, commander of the AL in Louisiana, and a power in Louisiana journalism and politics from 1918 to his death (heart attack) in his airplane "The Newsboy" in 1952. Editor and publisher of the Shreveport Times. One of the truly great regional editors and publishers in the American South in the 20th century. Opposed to Huey Long and the Ku Klux Klan. Largely responsible for bringing Barksdale Air Force Base into being. Also led campaign to create Cross Lake, which remains Shreveport's main water supply 80 years later. Major advocate of air power.
