Item 4: I will and desire that all my Stock farming ......crops ......and kitchen furniture be Sold to the highest bidder.....Months and the proceeds of Sale to be divided between my six children (viz, Martha A. Gault, Elizabeth N Gault, James A. Floyd, Benjamin W. Floyd, John H. Floyd and Mary Jane Webb they each and all of them to account for my advancements heretofore made to them.

The following is a letter from Drury Josiah Floyd's father, Josiah Floyd (1760 - 1833), son of Charles Floyd (1742 - 1797) and Martha Malone (1741 - 1772), to his sons in Tenn. He had married first it is thought Polly Tillman (Mary) he married 2nd to Rebecca Bugg a Widow in 1810 by her he had one son, William Monroe Floyd born in VA 1812. Rebecca took most of the children, her step children as well and went to Wiliamson co TN some time shortly before this letter was writen. Josiah Sr. was declared of age in 1781 in Va. records. On the Marriage to Polly Tillman, she had a guardian James Taylor who was discharged from his service to her when she married Josiah.

Dear Children,
I rec'd your letter bearing date the 7th March a few days ago. I was glad to hear from you all but sorry to hear of Jones and his family being so poorly.

I should have rote before this time but owing to my ill habit of health I put it off.

I am rather better of than I were when you left here. I have been under the Doctor now for thirteen days taking medicine every day.

My cofe has got better. Aunt Pettett (Un clear) will start in a few days to Georgia with John Bofs (Boss?) who have come heare.

We shall be Glad to heare from you at any time. You will let all the boys know how we are heare.

The rest of the famly all in reasonable health Thanks be to God for it and all hope these-(Page 2) few lines will find you well and all of them well and their familys. Give my love to them all. How glad I should be if I could but see them and their familys. Our Wheat are tollerable likely. Tell Joe that he ought not to expose himself by hard lifting.

I must conclude by subscribing my self your Father until death.

In the name of God Amen I Josiah Floyd of the county of Brunswick and state of Virginia do make and ordain and declare this to be my last will and testament revoking all others:

First I give to my wife Rebecca Floyd and to my daughters Mary Floyd, Rebecca D. Floyd, Martha Floyd, Nancy Floyd and Elizabeth Floyd and th their heirs forever the tract of land on which I live containing three hundred six acres be the same more or less a sufficiency of plantation tools to cultivate the farm, two cows and calves, one ox cart and wheels the young yoke of working oxen and a support out of my estate for one year.

Item I give to my daughters Mary, Rebecca D., Martha, Nancy and Elizabeth Floyd and to their heirs forever, three feather beds and furnature, two loomes with the slays and (___?__) belonging thereto three spinning wheels and three pair of cotton cards.

Item There after the payment of all my just debts, the residue of my estate (if any) I wish sold by my Executors here after named and the proceeds arising there from to be equally divided among all my children (viz) Drury, Jones, Joseph, John, Charles, James, William, Mary, Rebecca D., Martha, Nancy and Elizabeth Floyd which I give to them and theirs forever.

Lastly, I constitute and appoint my friends James Seward and John Daly Executors to this my last will and testament. In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of January 1828.

This last will and testament of Josiah Floyd decd was proved by the oaths of Chas. King Jr., Pascal Hicks and Theophulus White three of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be Recorded and as the motion of John Daly one of the Exect. named in the said will who made oath thereto according to law and together with John B. Thrower and James P. Harrison his securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of eight thousand Dollars conditioned according to law. Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat of the said decedents will in due form liberty being reserved for the other Executor named in the said will to join in the said probate where he thinks fit.

Arrived James town Va. 1619 on the ship Nova, one source says 1623 with brother Nathaniel another source says Transporte 1660 by Howell Pryse Beverly Fleet However in Brocks Va. Vol. # 1 page 156 says "Patented 400 A. Martins 100 April 24, 1630 this later became York Co. Va. by 1712..

2. Morris the first one -.

In Henrico Co. VA a William Humphreys left a will dated 1685/6 in which he named his daughter, Margaret, wife of Morris Floyd.

That name was also sometimes spelled Maurice Floyd.

Morris Floyd left his will in Henrico, July 1728 and named daughter, Rebecca, son Stephen, Josiah, William, Morris, Richard and a daughter Mary.

Stephen Floyd and Morris Floyd are mentioned in later records of Goochland Co. VA.

3. Morris the 2nd one-!. Possible the Morris of the land grant in 1702 King and Queen Co. Va., or perhaps this was his son. His will is in Henrico Co. June 1 1726 said to be sick of Body. His wife Mary presented an appraisal of his estate 1728 her name more than likely was Cook? there is material on the IGA said to be christing rec. ets but can't prove them.

4. Will of Josiah Floyd dated Dec 21 1790.

In the name of God Amen. I Josiah Floyd of the county of Brunswick and parish of Meherin being sick and weak of body but of perfect sound and disposing mind, knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in the manner and form following.

My soul I give to God who gave it hoping for Salvation through the merits of my Savior Christ and in so to the worldly goods it hath pleased God to bless me with I do give them as followeth,

In Primis: that all my just and full debts be first paid, and my body decently intered according to the discretion of my executors.

2ndly I give and bequeath unto my son Zachariah Floyd the lands whereon I now live containing three hundred and ninety eight acres, a negroe fellow Will, negroe fellow Jerry, a negroe woman Frank, a negroe woman Eady a negroe boy Randolph a negroe Ned, a negroe girl Pugg, a negroe girl Fanny a negroe boy Robin to him and his heirs forever, likewise all my stock of hogs, twenty head of cattle twenty head of sheep likewise all my corn, tobacco, wheat, and oats & fodder one dutch oven, loom, tea kettle, coffee pot, desk with all the rest of my kitchen and household furniture of all kinds also all my horses, and all kinds of tools and utensels, belong to the plantation to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my Grandson Morris Floyd a woman named Nancy, to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Charles Floyd my two negroe fellows James & Carter to him and his heirs.

In the name of God Amen. I Charles Floyd of Brunswick County being in resonable health of body but in sound mind and memory thanks be to God, do make this my Last Will & Testament. In primises: my soul I give to God who gave it me and my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried at the discresion of my executors hereafter to be mentioned.

Item: I lend unto my beloved wife Martha Floyed, negroe man Royal one negroe boy Will one negroe Suce (or Luce) also my stocks of all kinds & household & kitchen furniture during of life or widowhood & after her death or marriage my will & desire is that the above mentioned negroes, stocks & furniture as above mentioned may be equally divided between my children as namely (Vizt) Sally Floyed, Amey Floyed, Wells Floyed & William Floyed to them & their heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my son Drury Floyed five Shillings cash to him & his heirs forever..

Item: I give unto my daughter Patsey Pennington five shilling cash to her & her heirs forever.

Much of the Floyd material comes from Betty Hagen 2441 Vaughn Drive Manhattan, KS 66502. She searched out the Cemetery in the late 1980s and shared photos with me of the stones of both Drury Josiah Floyd and Sally Bass Lanier Floyd his wife also a daughter Rebecca who was buried near her parents. This Cemetery is abandoned it is found on the Farm of Ralph McClaran, South West of Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Item 4: I will and desire that all my Stock farming ......crops ......and kitchen furniture be Sold to the highest bidder.....Months and the proceeds of Sale to be divided between my six children (viz, Martha A. Gault, Elizabeth N Gault, James A. Floyd, Benjamin W. Floyd, John H. Floyd and Mary Jane Webb they each and all of them to account for my advancements heretofore made to them.

The following is a letter from Drury Josiah Floyd's father, Josiah Floyd (1760 - 1833), son of Charles Floyd (1742 - 1797) and Martha Malone (1741 - 1772), to his sons in Tenn. He had married first it is thought Polly Tillman (Mary) he married 2nd to Rebecca Bugg a Widow in 1810 by her he had one son, William Monroe Floyd born in VA 1812. Rebecca took most of the children, her step children as well and went to Wiliamson co TN some time shortly before this letter was writen. Josiah Sr. was declared of age in 1781 in Va. records. On the Marriage to Polly Tillman, she had a guardian James Taylor who was discharged from his service to her when she married Josiah.

Dear Children,
I rec'd your letter bearing date the 7th March a few days ago. I was glad to hear from you all but sorry to hear of Jones and his family being so poorly.

I should have rote before this time but owing to my ill habit of health I put it off.

I am rather better of than I were when you left here. I have been under the Doctor now for thirteen days taking medicine every day.

My cofe has got better. Aunt Pettett (Un clear) will start in a few days to Georgia with John Bofs (Boss?) who have come heare.

We shall be Glad to heare from you at any time. You will let all the boys know how we are heare.

The rest of the famly all in reasonable health Thanks be to God for it and all hope these-(Page 2) few lines will find you well and all of them well and their familys. Give my love to them all. How glad I should be if I could but see them and their familys. Our Wheat are tollerable likely. Tell Joe that he ought not to expose himself by hard lifting.

I must conclude by subscribing my self your Father until death.

In the name of God Amen I Josiah Floyd of the county of Brunswick and state of Virginia do make and ordain and declare this to be my last will and testament revoking all others:

First I give to my wife Rebecca Floyd and to my daughters Mary Floyd, Rebecca D. Floyd, Martha Floyd, Nancy Floyd and Elizabeth Floyd and th their heirs forever the tract of land on which I live containing three hundred six acres be the same more or less a sufficiency of plantation tools to cultivate the farm, two cows and calves, one ox cart and wheels the young yoke of working oxen and a support out of my estate for one year.

Item I give to my daughters Mary, Rebecca D., Martha, Nancy and Elizabeth Floyd and to their heirs forever, three feather beds and furnature, two loomes with the slays and (___?__) belonging thereto three spinning wheels and three pair of cotton cards.

Item There after the payment of all my just debts, the residue of my estate (if any) I wish sold by my Executors here after named and the proceeds arising there from to be equally divided among all my children (viz) Drury, Jones, Joseph, John, Charles, James, William, Mary, Rebecca D., Martha, Nancy and Elizabeth Floyd which I give to them and theirs forever.

Lastly, I constitute and appoint my friends James Seward and John Daly Executors to this my last will and testament. In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of January 1828.

This last will and testament of Josiah Floyd decd was proved by the oaths of Chas. King Jr., Pascal Hicks and Theophulus White three of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be Recorded and as the motion of John Daly one of the Exect. named in the said will who made oath thereto according to law and together with John B. Thrower and James P. Harrison his securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of eight thousand Dollars conditioned according to law. Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat of the said decedents will in due form liberty being reserved for the other Executor named in the said will to join in the said probate where he thinks fit.

...equitable part after deducting his said Richard Floyd's equitable share of said money, he having also paid Wilson Yardell sixty dollars, his bill for attendance on the said Elizabeth Floyd, wife of said Drury, on her last illness and the family from 1833 and also paying twenty dollars extra to the aforenamed distributors Polly Floyd, Elizabeth Floyd & Sally & Josiah W. Floyd, then the foregoing obligation shall be void, otherwise it shall remain in full force and virtue. Signed with our hand and sealed with our seals the day and date above written..

Arrived James town Va. 1619 on the ship Nova, one source says 1623 with brother Nathaniel another source says Transporte 1660 by Howell Pryse Beverly Fleet However in Brocks Va. Vol. # 1 page 156 says "Patented 400 A. Martins 100 April 24, 1630 this later became York Co. Va. by 1712..

2. Morris the first one -.

In Henrico Co. VA a William Humphreys left a will dated 1685/6 in which he named his daughter, Margaret, wife of Morris Floyd.

That name was also sometimes spelled Maurice Floyd.

Morris Floyd left his will in Henrico, July 1728 and named daughter, Rebecca, son Stephen, Josiah, William, Morris, Richard and a daughter Mary.

Stephen Floyd and Morris Floyd are mentioned in later records of Goochland Co. VA.

3. Morris the 2nd one-!. Possible the Morris of the land grant in 1702 King and Queen Co. Va., or perhaps this was his son. His will is in Henrico Co. June 1 1726 said to be sick of Body. His wife Mary presented an appraisal of his estate 1728 her name more than likely was Cook? there is material on the IGA said to be christing rec. ets but can't prove them.

4. Will of Josiah Floyd dated Dec 21 1790.

In the name of God Amen. I Josiah Floyd of the county of Brunswick and parish of Meherin being sick and weak of body but of perfect sound and disposing mind, knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in the manner and form following.

My soul I give to God who gave it hoping for Salvation through the merits of my Savior Christ and in so to the worldly goods it hath pleased God to bless me with I do give them as followeth,

In Primis: that all my just and full debts be first paid, and my body decently intered according to the discretion of my executors.

2ndly I give and bequeath unto my son Zachariah Floyd the lands whereon I now live containing three hundred and ninety eight acres, a negroe fellow Will, negroe fellow Jerry, a negroe woman Frank, a negroe woman Eady a negroe boy Randolph a negroe Ned, a negroe girl Pugg, a negroe girl Fanny a negroe boy Robin to him and his heirs forever, likewise all my stock of hogs, twenty head of cattle twenty head of sheep likewise all my corn, tobacco, wheat, and oats & fodder one dutch oven, loom, tea kettle, coffee pot, desk with all the rest of my kitchen and household furniture of all kinds also all my horses, and all kinds of tools and utensels, belong to the plantation to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my Grandson Morris Floyd a woman named Nancy, to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Charles Floyd my two negroe fellows James & Carter to him and his heirs.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Drury Floyd my negroe boy Isaac to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my Grandson Isiah Floyd, one ------negroe named Hammon to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Grandaughter Phebey Floyd daughter of my son Charles Floyd, a negroe girl named Patience to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my son in-law Benjamin Hicks a negroe woman namely Ursey & her increase to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Potello, a negroe boy named Ejsic?, a negroe girl Judah, a woman named Lucy, a negroe boy named Burril to her and her heirs.

Item: I give unto my grandaughter Elizabeth Floyd daughter of my son Charles Floyd, on negroe girl named Faithey to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my daughter Mary Bracey, twenty shillings currant money. Lastly I do hereby appoint my sons Charles and Zachariah Floyd Executors of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all wills by me formerly made and declaring this to be my last will in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand affixed my seal this 21st day of December A.D one thousand seven hundred and ninenty.

In the name of God Amen. I Charles Floyd of Brunswick County being in resonable health of body but in sound mind and memory thanks be to God, do make this my Last Will & Testament. In primises: my soul I give to God who gave it me and my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried at the discresion of my executors hereafter to be mentioned.

Item: I lend unto my beloved wife Martha Floyed, negroe man Royal one negroe boy Will one negroe Suce (or Luce) also my stocks of all kinds & household & kitchen furniture during of life or widowhood & after her death or marriage my will & desire is that the above mentioned negroes, stocks & furniture as above mentioned may be equally divided between my children as namely (Vizt) Sally Floyed, Amey Floyed, Wells Floyed & William Floyed to them & their heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my son Drury Floyed five Shillings cash to him & his heirs forever..

Item: I give unto my daughter Patsey Pennington five shilling cash to her & her heirs forever.

I give unto my daughter Phebe Davis five shillings cash to her and her heirs forever.

Much of the Floyd material comes from Betty Hagen 2441 Vaughn Drive Manhattan, KS 66502. She searched out the Cemetery in the late 1980s and shared photos with me of the stones of both Drury Josiah Floyd and Sally Bass Lanier Floyd his wife also a daughter Rebecca who was buried near her parents. This Cemetery is abandoned it is found on the Farm of Ralph McClaran, South West of Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
