Barbara Lane (Bennett) Dowling, 84, of Kittery, ME passed away on March 29, 2015 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Exeter, NH in 1930.
She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School in 1948 and the Modern School of Design in Boston in 1950. With her husband she founded Dowling Corporation and was co-owner until she retired in 1994. She lived most of her life in Stratham, NH and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary. For over 25 years she volunteered tirelessly for the annual Stratham Fair. She also volunteered at the Stratham Community Church Clothes Attic and Christmas Fair. For 20 years she and her husband enjoyed their southwestern friends when they wintered in Lake Havasu City, AZ. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed expanding her perennial beds.
She was predeceased by her parents, Everett and Irene Bennett of Greenland, NH; her husband of 45 years, Lawrence Dowling; and her brother Willard Bennett. She is survived by her four children, Dana Dowling and his wife Judy of Stratham, NH, David Dowling and Dixie Hayes of North Yarmouth, ME, Roger Dowling and his wife Linda of Nottingham, NH, and Norma Dowling of North Berwick, ME. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Justin, Sarah, Nathan, Abigail, Dylan, Dalton, Noah, Allison, Emily, Tyler and Ryan; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Rebecca Radford and her husband Fred of Georgetown, MA.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 3, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 11 AM at the Stratham Community Church, 6 Emery Lane, Stratham, NH. Burial will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Greenland, NH in the spring.
