David DeWitt Boatman passed away peacefully on March 31, 2015 at the age of 86 following a brief illness.

David was born in Abilene, Texas on July 2, 1928, to Rev C.O. and Ruby Boatman. David will be remembered as a loving father, proud US Navy Veteran and avid genealogist. David served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, where he was part of the US forces in occupied Japan, and in the Korean Conflict. He came from a tradition of military service; his father, brother and sister (who was killed in the Korean Conflict) all having served.

He is survived by his son, Byron Boatman; his daughter and son-in-law Marie and Stephen Neish; his step-son, Aaron Ford; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; his sister-in-life Ruth Dunnam; Tim and Paula Boatman; and life long friend Dale Thorn.

David was predeceased by his brother John Boatman, sister Marie Boatman, son Guy Boatman, and two step-sons Ricky and Tim Ford.

A funeral service to remember David's life will be held at 11:30AM on Tuesday April 7, 2015 at Jeter & Son Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:30AM. The interment will follow at Dallas-Forth Worth National Cemetery at 1:15PM.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memory of those who served be honored with gifts to The Greatest Generations Foundations www.tggf.org.

David Dewitt Boatman son of a Methodist Minister lived in Texas all of his life except for a year in Illinois, Missouri and Arizona.

He was an avid genealogist since February 1965 and a Historian for the Fambrough Family Society for almost 20 years and a book was published from his findings in 1990. He was also contributor to published book "The Boatman Family" in 1971. by Opal London Cox

He was first married to Sharon Eyvonne Thompson September 23, 1960 and divorced October 18, 1965. He married Barbara Jeannette Tabor December 30, 1968.
