BEVERLY HILLS -- John Evan Barkley, 74, a retired executive in the auto industry, died June 25, 1996, in Lecanto.
A native of South Bend, Ind., he moved here from Birmingham, Mich., 10 years ago. He was a member of Harry F. Nesbitt VFW Post No. 10087, Beverly Hills; Beverly Hills Recreation Association; and the Scottish Rite (F&AM) Lodge No. 294, South Bend. Mr. Barkley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and he was Protestant.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Frank Barkley.
Survivors include his wife, Harriett Barkley, Beverly Hills; son, Harry John Barkley, Roswell, Ga.; daughter, Barbara Gail Shaffer, Nashville, Tenn.; brother, James Edward Barkley, South Bend; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
