Edith Love Smidt, Corpus Christi, TX, passed away peacefully at her home on June 15, 2012 at the age of 97. She was born in 1915. She was a native of Corpus Christi and a graduate of Corpus Christi High School. She married Jack S. Love in 1936. She was employed by the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station during World War II. After her husband's discharge from Army Service in April of 1946, he became a partner and later owner of Tullos Pharmacy, which was located across the street from Spohn Hospital. Edith supported him daily at the drug store. They had two children, Jack Jr., and Patricia Ann.
After his death, she was employed by the Corpus Christi Housing Authority where she was APHA manager for the first housing for low income elderly in Corpus Christi.
It was during this time that she met and married Clarence V. Smidt. They enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing together, and upon her retirement after 20 years of service, they enjoyed traveling. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in United Methodist Women, the Friendship Class, and Garden Club.
The Lord blessed her and her family with 97 years of life. She leaves behind her son of Mico, and her daughter of Corpus Christi, TX, granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
There will be a private service and burial. Edith's wishes were that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Vinson Morris Children's Center, First United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to New Century Hospice and caregivers for their devotion and loving care.
