Ray Campbell, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2015, with his loving wife of 60 years, Grace, by his side.

He was born one of seven children of Joe and Mary Campbell, on March 27, 1928, in Pleasants County, W.Va., and remained a resident of Pleasants County his entire life. In fact, he never moved more than a few miles from his place of birth to his final resting spot in Willow Island.

He and Grace (Calvert) were married on May 9, 1955 after a 30-day courtship. Ray was employed as a union local 667 boilermaker in the area for more than 30 years. He was one of the workers who was on site and helped with the rescue effort during the tragedy of the cooling tower collapse at Willow Island in April 1978.

During this time, he and Grace had five daughters, Elizabeth, twins, Linda and Brenda, Peggy, and Diana. They endured the loss of Brenda to illness in 1960. After that many girls they were then blessed with a son, Steven Ray.

After retirement, Ray enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, spending his time caring for the house he and Grace built while tending his vegetable and flower gardens and raising beef cattle. The bounties from their vegetable gardens were shared amongst many neighbors and friends.

Ray always enjoyed visits from his family and friends which allowed him to share colorful stories of his life experiences. You were never a stranger at "Bo Mannys" home or better yet, his comfortable front porch swing. He was never happier than when he had a grandchild sitting on his lap sharing a snack or sneaking a morning "coffee" to the toddler sitting in the middle of the breakfast table.

His devotion and dedication to family leaves those who loved him humbled and grateful to have had such a wonderful husband and father. He was larger-than-life to those who loved him and that void will never be filled.

Left to cherish his memory are Elizabeth (Melvin) Steele, Linda Campbell, Peggy Vaughan, Diana (Roger) Wright, and Steve (Chrissy) Campbell; and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. Ray is preceded in death by his siblings, Howard, John, Ben and Ruby Campbell, Ellie Miller, and Grace Flowers.

Private services will be conducted by Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment will be at Willow Island Baptist Church cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Care Haven Nursing Home for their excellent care and attention.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Willow Island Baptist Church.
