U.S. Fleet Air Base, Coco Solo, C.Z. 14 Aug 1936
The below named Officer lost his life on 14 Aug 1936, while engaged in maneuver over and close aboard the USS Garfield near La Pita Station, Panama Canal. He was piloting a pursue (sic) plane on a familiarization flight as Inspections and Survey Officer, when plane suddenly crashed and sank. Body recovered: Curtin, Lawrence William, Lieutenant, U.S. Navy.

Opinion - Due to violation of instructions death was not considered in line of duty, and was due to own misconduct. Death attributed to violation of numerous safety precautions and regulations - CONVENING AUTHORITY expressed opinion accident due to error in judgment. Death held to have resulted due to own misconduct.
