He was the son of the late Henry Winston and Evelyn Ussery Nichols. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ridgeway and lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #30. He retired after co-owning Nichols Brothers in Winnsboro for over 50 years. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Helen Cooper Nichols; daughters: Phyllis Nichols Gutierrez and Beth Nichols (Brett) Collins both of Ridgeway; brother: Ted Nichols of Winnsboro; sister, Mary Pat (Davis) Wright of Blythewood; grandchildren: Nicole Collins (Croom) Hunter and Courtney Collins (Martin) Timms; step-grandson: Alex Gutierrez and great granddaughter: Addison Taylor Collins. He is also survived by his pet, Jack the donkey.

In addition to is his parents, he is predeceased by son: Phillip Winston "Rock" Nichols, Jr.; son-in-law: Francis "Frank" Max Gutierrez and sister-in-law: Verna R. Nichols.

Funeral services were held at 3 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Ridgeway. Rev. Dr. Jack Williamson officiated. Burial followed in Aimwell Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 - 8 PM on Tuesday evening at Pope Funeral Home. Pope Funeral Home assisted the Nichols family.
