Blaine E. Swearman , 89, of Irwin, formerly of Meyersdale, died Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Forbes Hospital, Monroeville. He was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Meyersdale, a son of the late Robert and Lola (Sechler) Swearman , and was also preceded in death by his son, Danny B. Swearman , and brothers, Donald and William Swearman .

He was a proud Army veteran serving in the European Theater of Operations of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and Croix de Guerre.

Blaine was a retired employee of Laurel Ridge Construction, Greensburg, a member of VFW Post 3368, American Legion Post 446, both in Mt. Pleasant, and a charter member of West Hempfield Presbyterian Church.

He enjoyed watching western movies starring John Wayne and telling stories of the war. Blaine is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Doris (McKenzie Miller) Swearman , of Irwin, children, Terry R. Swearman , of Pittsburgh, Hugh A. (Mary) Swearman , of North Huntingdon, and Timothy C. Swearman , of West Newton, grandchildren, Christopher M. (Jennifer) Swearman , of McDonald, Robert S. (Ginny Mae) Swearman , of Rillton, Jacob R. Swearman and Margaret L. Swearman , of North Huntingdon, and great-grandchildren, Michael D., Timothy B., Deianarra L. and Arianna T. Swearman .

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Dr. Cindy Benz officiating. Interment will follow at Westmoreland County Memorial Park.

Blaine was a US Army Veteran of WWII who Served with the 94th Infantry Division in northern France, The Ardennes, Germany, Luxembourg, and Czechoslovakia as part of Patton’s Third Army.
