Born Nov. 26, 1923 in Attica, he moved to Norwalk when he was 14 from Willard. He owned and managed Comet Cleaners for the past 35 years and was a member and retired elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Norwalk.
A former member of the Norwalk City Council and Planning Commission, he also a member of the Norwalk Lions Club and a life member of the Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post #41, both of Norwalk. He was also a member of the Science Lodge #50 F&AM in Sandusky and a life member of the Ohio Chapter of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association. He was a former member of International Toastmasters of Norwalk and a crew member of the U.S.S. Fogg, a naval destroyer escort during World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Janice (Parish) Cross; two sons, Steven and Ronald, both of Norwalk; a daughter Patricia Graefe of Sanford, N.C. six grandchildren, and four great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Gladys (Tanner) Cross; a brother, Richard Cross; and a sister, Jacqueline Quist; and a Grandson, Robin Graefe.
A memorial service was held Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Norwalk with Rev. Steve Ebling officiating.
