Mildred Arthur Gardner, 88, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on Thursday, April 8, 1926, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Walter Henry Arthur and Winifred Crouch Arthur as well as four brothers and eight sisters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Gardner. She was retired from Frank Chervan and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.Surviving are her sons, Roger L. Gardner and wife, Debbie, Terry A. Gardner, both of Bedford; her daughters, Janet G. Hicks of Lynchburg, and Karen G. Fulk and husband, Mike of Goode; a sister, Arline Ferguson of Huddleston, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, five sisters-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews.The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Cemetery, c/o Jan P. Burnette, 6325 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway, Huddleston, VA 24104 or Trinity Baptist Church, 947 Lyle Street, Bedford, VA 24523.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Delong officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 31, 2015, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, Bedford, Va. and other times at the home of Roger and Debbie Gardner.Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
