He was born in Leesville, SC, son of the late Irene M. Jennings, a U. S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War, retired from the former New Cumberland Army Depot and Deacon Emeritus of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on a number of boards.
"Ray" was a gifted handyman who enjoyed lending a helping hand.
He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys & Boston Celtics and loved to watch golf.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Theodore Davenport, and leaves to survive and celebrate his life, his wife of 57 years, Myrtice M. Davenport; his five children: Raymond Davenport, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Mark Davenport (Wendy) of Steelton, David Davenport, Yolanda Waters (Frederick) and Jeannette D. Wilbourn, all of Harrisburg; his 11 grandchildren & two great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Jennings (Charlie Mack) of Batesburg, SC and a host of other relatives and friends.
Raymond's life will be celebrated on Thursday, April 2 at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary of his Church at 2339 N. 6th St. with viewing 10 until 11 a.m. and burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors.
At the request of Ray's family donations may be made to Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute, American Diabetes Assoc. or the Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund.
