Preceded in death by his parents Richard and Edna, and also by his brother-in-law, Kenneth H. Shroka. Dennis served in the Navy as an Airman, from July 1, 1971 to September 23, 1972. He retired in 1990 as Chief Yeoman. He received his first Bachelor's degree from Loyola University, and his second Bachelor's degree from SIU in Applied Science and Art. He received his Masters of Public Administration from SIU. He graduated with a certificate from DeVry Institute for Home Electronic Systems II. Dennis was an Assistant Professor for the SIU Aviation (AVTECH). He received Teacher of the Year from 2009 - 2010 and 2011 - 2012. He was a member of the American Radio Relay League Inc.; Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS); Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA); Experimental Aircraft Association; and a Cub Scout Den Leader from 1984 - 1987. Services were held at Grand Ave Christian Church, Carbondale, with Rev. Jon Hughes officiating. Meredith Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
