Memorial service for Mrs. Louise Frances Davis, age 93, of Las Vegas, NV, previously of McCloud, will be conducted at Mt. Shasta Memorial Chapel on Saturday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m. Father Aidan O'Reilly of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Mt. Shasta will officiate. Interment will be placed beside her husband in the Memorial Park.

Mrs. Davis passed away on September 19, 1998 in Las Vegas at the home of her daughter, Catherine. Her death was attributed to heart failure following complications from a fall and broken hip, for which she had been hospitalized.

Mrs. Davis was born Louise Thome in Bemidji, MN, on October 6, 1905. She was one of eight children of Mattias and Susan Thome, with three sisters and four brothers. Of her siblings, she was survived only by her younger sister, Catherine Thome, of Chippewa Falls, WI. Her parents were natives of the country of Luxembourg and for many years owned and operated a dairy farm. Mrs. Davis moved to California in 1928 and in McCloud she met her husband-to-be, Louis, also a native of Minnesota. They were married in 1931 at the newly-built St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where they remained regular parishioners for 53 years, until Mr. Davis' death in 1984.

In addition to her role as a homemaker for her husband and three children, Mrs. Davis was employed for a time at the McCloud Mercantile store, worked part-time as a desk clerk at the Old McCloud Hotel, and assisted with meal preparation at the McCloud River Lumber Co.

Mrs. Davis lived in Oak Grove, OR, for a time and then relocated to Las Vegas in 1996.

Surviving are her sons Joseph Davis of Chico and Richard Davis of Portola Valley and her daughter Catherine Sosnovske of Las Vegas, NV. Mrs. Davis was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Because of the similarity of their grandparents' first names, the first grandchildren logically dubbed them "Grandma and Grandpa Louie," and the reference stuck through the years.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church in McCloud.
