Butler, Veronica 94 Feb. 02, 1921 Mar. 18, 2015 Veronica Butler passed peacefully Wednesday, March 18, 2015, in Oregon City. She was 94. Ronnie was an Oregon City resident for the past 68 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and survived by her daughter, Carol Franzen, Oregon City; sons, Craig Butler, Seattle and Gerald McLenaghan, Portsmouth, England; grandchildren, Erica Francom, Rachelle and Jeanette Franzen and David and Steven McLenaghan; and great-grandchildren, Justin, Braden, Connor, Amy, Jessica and Grace. A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesay, March 31, 2015, at St. John's Catholic Church, Oregon City. A reception will follow. Ronnie was born to Thomas and Mary Dorian in Sunderland, England, where she grew up before pursuing a health care career as a registered nurse. She served at several hospitals around the United Kingdom during WWII and survived the hardships of serving in London during the heavy bombing campaigns. Her courage and quick sense of humor prevailed in not only her own survival, but comforting others during that very difficult time. It was during her nursing duty in Bournemouth, England, that she met and eventually married her lifelong partner of 56 years, Charles Butler, then an American Army officer and her patient. Ronnie moved to Oregon City after the war with Charles who was the systems engineer for Crown Zellerbach, West Linn for 32 years until his retirement. After health care nursing work locally, Ronnie became a homemaker and a very dedicated community service volunteer in the local PTA, Cub and Boy Scouts, Campfire Girls and eventually for eldercare of friends and relatives. Ronnie will be remembered dearly by those she touched as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Cub Scout den mother, health care professional and dear friend. Her special Northern English sense of humor often caught us by surprise and usually kept us in stitches. We should all aspire to her ability to put smiles on people's faces wherever she went and in providing her generous caring attitude and service to others.
