He was born March 26, 1920, in Randolph, Ohio, to parents Andrew and Julia (Guba) Herchek. John was a decorated veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army. He worked as an automobile mechanic, retiring from Jenior Ford. As with most mechanics, John kept working on his own cars well after retirement.
He loved to watch sports, go fishing, and play cards. John was known to appear as a guest bartender at many of the local Randolph establishments. Most of all, John was a hardworker, who was devoted to his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Edith (DeGroff) Herchek, whom he married on February 16, 1951. He is also survived by his three sons: John M. (Pamm) Herchek of Randolph, Jim (Lisa) Herchek of Bainbridge, and Mark (Desiree) Herchek of Randolph, as well as his grandchildren: Bethey, Tom, Jeff, Haley, and Erik Herchek.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Andrew and Michel Herchek.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at 11:00 AM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Interment will follow with full military honors at Hillside Cemetery in Randolph.
