Roger Dale Loyd, 67, of Sycamore, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 20. He was born July 9, 1947, to John and Pearlie Loyd in Haleyville Alabama.
His service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966-1968 earned him the title of a decorated veteran. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
He was united together with the love of his life Nancy on December 1st, 1972. Roger was a truck driver for 35 years. Afterward, he and his wife Nancy owned and operated R & N Transport for 10 years. He was a very loving and gentle man who always put his family first. He enjoyed playing cards, dice, grocery shopping with his Jessi, and visiting with family and friends. He had a passion for traveling and had a great sense of adventure which showed in his desire to just get in his car and go.
He is survived by his children, Kim (Roger) Stockl, Michelle (Chuck) Calbeck, Shanon Loyd, Steven Loyd; grandchildren, Allison (Nolan) Bohr, Lauren Calbeck, Courtney Stockl, Megan Calbeck, Michael Stockl, Jessica Loyd, Jacob Loyd, Madelynn Calbeck; great grandsons, Tristan and Travis Bohr; and his brother, Euil Loyd; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; son, Jonathan; his parents, John and Pearlie; and siblings, JC, Ed, Mary Rose, Carrie, Dorothy, Johnny, Yvonne, Erma, and Kathy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Quiram Sycamore Chapel, 1245 Somonauk Street, Sycamore, IL with a visitation from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25th, 2015, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Ohio Grove Cemetery.
