Charles Louis “Charlie” Bezoni, 67, of Jefferson City passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at Capital Region Medical Center after a 7 year battle with cancer.
He was born January 27, 1948 in Kansas City, MO the son of the late Orenzo Everett and Hattie Elizabeth (Fletcher) Bezoni.
He was united in marriage on June 24, 1967 to Mary Katherine “Mickey” Stuart at St. Bonaventure Church in Marceline, MO.
Charlie was a graduate of Marceline High School class of 1966.
Charlie enjoyed many activities including planting flowers, fixing things around the house, cars, his weekly poker games with the guys, fishing, hunting and loving his chocolate lab “Fletcher”.
He was fortunate to have many caring fun and hardworking friends.
Charlie started his career as a store manager with Mattingly Bros. Dime Store for eleven years.
In 1979 he joined the fast growing retail chain Walmart Stores Inc. He was an assistant manager in Camdenton and Lebanon, MO. He was manager of Store #3 in Springdale, AR., he opened a new store in Marshall, and the original store on Missouri Boulevard in Jefferson City, where he and his management team and associates won Regional Store of the year for 1987.
In 1990 he opened and managed one of the first Walmart Supercenters in the country. The Jefferson City store set the standard of a new retail concept for future Supercenters. After five years he was promoted and served as district manager across a large part of Missouri.
In August 1999, he was presented the Sam M. Walton Award of Excellence. He ended his 41 year retail career by retiring in 2007.
He is survived by his wife Mickey, one sister: Shirley Smith (Marvin) of Sedalia; one brother: Cecil Bezoni (Kathy) of Columbia; sixteen nieces and nephews and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, one niece, Linda Sue Murphy, and four beloved dogs: Tracks, KC, Tyler and Brittany.
Family will receive friends Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
Funeral service will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Father Ignazio C. Medina officiating.
Additional visitation will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Delaney Funeral Home, 1720 N Missouri Ave, Marceline, MO 64658.
Graveside Service and interment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Marceline, MO.
Expressions of sympathy may be made Dr. Tamara Hopkins Patient Assistance Program.
