Bernard "Chief" Lemmens, 80, Green Bay, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, following a short illness. He was born November 18, 1934, in Black Creek, WI to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Lemmens.Bernard served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning from the service, he married Arlene Challe. On March 20, 1966, Bernard married Kathleen Kurowski at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Green Bay. He began his career in 1971 with Brown County and worked for many years in the Maintenance Department at Austin Straubel Airport. Bernard retired from Brown County in 1995. In 1999, he began working for St. Vincent Hospital as a parking attendant. Bernard again retired in January of 2015. In his free time, he enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, listening to country and western music, and watching the Packers. Bernard was a hardworking but "simple kind of man."Bernard is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his children from his first marriage: Debbie, New York; Mike, Nevada; William, Roxanne, and Kelly, all of the Green Bay area; his children with Kathleen: Paul (Lisa) Lemmens, Green Bay; Michelle (Karl) Pavlowski, Green Bay; Karie (Dan) Trojan, Denver, CO; Bernard's stepchildren: Connie (Russ) Wagner, Suamico; Jenny Woelz and her special friend, Randy, Seymour; Cindy (Herbie) Hullings, California; Laurie Douglas, Luxemburg; many grandchildren; his special grandchildren, Kelsey, Bryan, Katie Jo, and Will; two great-grandsons, Walker and Carter; two brothers and a sister-in-law: Arnold and Verna Lemmens, Black Creek; John "Flash" Lemmens, Poland, WI; four sisters, Marie Hoes, Sally Able, Harriet Rolkowski, Esther Gerrits, all of the Green Bay area; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene; his parents; a granddaughter, Maggie; and three sisters, Anna, Jo, and Martha.Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 27. The Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 27 at the funeral home, concluded with Veteran Honors. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Kaukauna.
