She was born on October 22, 1919 to Arthur and D. Jane (Bickhard) Hoover in Antwerp, OH. On December 24, 1938 she married Robert S. Burke.
She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of the church's Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Salmagundi Book Club and was a Van Wert Eastern Star.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Stephen (Christine) Burke of Defiance, Michael (Roberta) Burke of Naples, FL, daughter-in-law, Judith Burke of Defiance, grandchildren, Robert (Ilaria) Burke III, Jennifer (David) Rinkes, Mark (Julia) Burke, Timothy (Celeste) Burke, Philip Burke, Daniel Burke and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, brother, Arthur E. Hoover, Jr.and a son, Robert Burke Jr.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014 with services beginning at 1 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with Rev. Eric Peltz officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Riverview Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
The family suggests memorials be directed to the 1st Presbyterian Church or to the CHP Hospice - Visiting Nurses.
