Civil War Union Soldier. He was a private in Company C of the 51st Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He had three older brothers who were Union soldiers in the Civil War as well. He fell in the taking of the Burnside Bridge at Antietam in the battle between Federal and Confederate forces on September 17, 1862. His name is inscribed in a memorial at Burnside Bridge.
